Firemain are the UK Distributor’s of FireDos, the foam proportioning system that now has an impressive list of satisfied end users.

Using foam as intended is very similar to the "Fairy Liquid" analogy – if you use an expensive foam concentrate designed to be effective at 1%, 3%, 6% or part %'s it follows that you don't want wasted foam through inaccurate proportioning. Inaccurate proportioning means more product is lost to firewater run-off, money literally going down the drain is madness. The environmental impact of foam in water courses is much debated but anything that reduces it is a good thing. FireDos addresses both these issues and copes with solution flows of up to 22,000 lpm. Pressure losses are minimal meaning that system efficiency is maximized all round.

Each FireDos unit is made up of two main elements : the water-powered motor and the mixer pump. The water supply to the fire hoses passes through the motor and provides its motive power; its rotational speed depends on the volumetric flow rate of the water in litres/gallons per minute. The unit is equally suited to fixed pipe installation as to use with lay-flat hoses.

There is a proportional relationship between volumetric flow rate and the rev. speed of the motor. Changes in the volumetric flow rate have a direct effect on the speed of rotation of the motor drive shaft. The water-powered motor drives the mixing pump. In this way, energy is drawn from the flow of water in the form of pressure and is used as working energy required to drive the mixing pump.
